A chance.
A community.
A future.

Every learner has a story worth believing in. Together, we help young people stay in school, discover their strengths and build a future of their own.

Where our story began

One learner.
Then a community.

It began with a simple conviction: a young person’s potential should never be limited by what their family can afford.

In 2017, home visits brought Ndungu Nyoro face to face with capable learners at risk of missing out on secondary school. He turned to an online community, and people came together to help.

Watoto Wasome grew from that response. Affecto Foundation was registered in January 2018, carrying forward the belief that investing in one learner can create possibilities for a family and a wider community.

Today, that same spirit lives in every sponsor, mentor, alumnus and friend who stays involved long after the first school day.

How change happens

Getting into school
is just the beginning.

Support for the whole person, through the everyday moments that make an education possible.

A place in school

A scholarship opens the door. Fees, uniforms, books, personal-care essentials and transport help learners arrive ready to take part.

Someone in your corner

Regular follow-up, mentorship, psychosocial support and career guidance give young people a community to turn to as they grow.

Room to become

Leadership experiences, practical skills and opportunities beyond the classroom help learners discover what they can bring to the world.

The people behind the progress

Real journeys.
New possibilities.

Meet three people whose accounts in our 2025 Annual Report show how support can grow into skills, independence and confidence.

Creativity → opportunity

A talent becomes a livelihood.

Peter’s curiosity about video editing grew into a passion for storytelling. Affecto supported a four-month multimedia course, followed by opportunities to photograph and design for Watoto Wasome events.

He graduated in June 2025 and began earning from his creative work, helping pay part of his university fees and upkeep. The report follows his next step too: founding Elvisio Creative Agency in early 2026.

Enterprise → independence

Building a business. Backing a future.

Affecto helped Blessing turn her skills into a stronger foundation for her future. Seed capital supported a clothing business and helped grow her existing braiding work.

With clothing stock and salon materials, she developed two sources of income. In her account, Blessing describes greater independence, the ability to contribute to her family, and renewed determination to complete her education.

Leadership → confidence

Finding a voice. Thinking bigger.

With Affecto’s support, Sharon travelled to Rwanda for a youth conference in December 2025. She stepped onto a panel, shared her story and connected with young leaders from across Africa.

The experience expanded her confidence and her sense of possibility. Learning from other young people’s work encouraged her to think bigger about her own contribution to her community.

The next chapter

When one grows,
others grow too.

Through the Affecto Growth Circle, young people are putting mentorship into practice: growing crops, building partnerships and learning to run an enterprise together.

In 2025, the group expanded its crop production and adopted forward contracting. Their journey is part of a wider ambition: helping education lead to sustainable livelihoods, and giving the next generation a foundation to build on.
